Abstract: The paper presents an overview of the intellectual trajectory of François Cheng, the first Chinese writer to become a member of the French Academy, highlighting his mediating role between Eastern and Western cultures, specifically that of France, and not only in the field of literature but painting as well. In effect, aesthetic concerns go hand in hand with a moral dimension in this Chinese-French author's oeuvre.
