    Absztrakt The paper discusses the diary of Bernardino Zambotti, published under the title Diario ferrarese dall’anno 1476 sino al 1504, and its references to Hungary. The majority of these accounts dwell on the lives of Queen Beatrice of Aragonia and her relatives, with a special focus on Ippolito d’Este, the Archbishop of Esztergom. In addition to these entries, I also present the adventures of the Hungarian students, who pursued their studies at the University of Ferrara. The diary also mentions diplomats who were sent both by the kings of Hungary and the dukes of Ferrara, as well as prominent events in the Kingdom of Hungary. Among the references to the emissaries delegated to Hungary, there emerges an interesting account, which offers surprising additional information on the pillaging of the cathedral of Székesfehérvár after the death of King Matthias.

    Absztrakt A large number of religious poems were published in Italy during the 17th century, but these works have often been ignored by critics. The authors of the compositions aimed at replacing the traditional “escapist” literature – the books of chivalry in particular – with a pious form of entertainment. The translations of the Scriptures in vernacular were prohibited by the Church, therefore this kind of poetry was one of the few ways to get in contact with the Scriptures for the readers who did not know Latin. The plots of these poemswere drawn directly either fromthe Bible or fromhagiographies, although their stories were enriched with new episodes invented by the writers, who usually showed the tendency to imitate Torquato Tasso’s Gerusalemme liberata. This paper intends to give a general description – with some relevant examples – of this complex literary genre, which is little known but extremely rich and various.

    Absztrakt Women’s individuality is still an open question that attracts attention. We can look for women’s emancipation because of the efforts for recognition of the woman as a free individuality gifted with reason. This fact becomes an especially interesting dimension in the literature. The aim of this paper is to highlight the interdependence of the individual and society in the 18th century, and how this relationship is reflected in literary works. We will discuss the connection of two methodological concepts:Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of the chronotope and Michel Foucault’s concept of identity. These two concepts will be furthermore applied to the epistolary novel Lettres d’une Péruvienne (1747), written by Françoise de Graffigny.

    Absztrakt The aim of this paper is to analyse the opening short story of Decameron. Here, Boccaccio plays with the reader, hiding himself behind Ser Cepparello, the main character, and giving rise to various interpretations. Does the story concern a criticism against the religious habits and the popular naivety, or is it rather an entertainment, with the only goal of amusing the reader thanks to the power of the word? The paper reviews the most important critical literature, and then it attempts an interpretation of Ciappelletto, who unwillingly became a Saint.

    Absztrakt The paper discusses Adriano Spatola’s proposal of a “Parasurrealism” through a short review of Malebolge. Together with other writers (especially Giorgio Celli), Spatola suggested that a retake of the processes of French Surrealism was a possible way to rejuvenate Italian neo-avantgarde poetry. Here we analyze the theoretical interventions of the authors, plus one of Spatola’s poetic texts, with the intent to explain the purpose of this operation.

    Absztrakt In this paper we present a syntactic model aimed at explaining some differences between English and Italian wh-exclamatives. In particular, we will address the question of word order differences and the presence/absence of the finite complementiser in this type of wh-construction. While in English wh-exclamatives exhibit a non-inverted word-order and the obligatory absence of a complementiser, in Italian the verbal predicate generally precedes the subject and the complementiser is optional or obligatory in some cases. Drawing on the insights of recent minimalist studies of subject–auxiliary inversion in English (Branigan 2005; Pesetsky & Torrego 2001; 2007), and of the syntax of exclamatives (Portner & Zanuttini 2003), we will argue for an analysis in which the differences result from the different base position of the subject. We will extend our analysis to shed light on how the structure of wh-questions differs from that of wh-exclamatives, and will explore the special status of these constructions when they contain a subject wh-phrase.

    Absztrakt In this paper I want to present some phonetic and phonological phenomena which systematically recur in the foreign accent of Italian speakers of different origin. The aim of the paper is to argue in favour of the existence of a common “Italian foreign accent”, which may offer a new and unusual approach to the synchronic phonology of Italian. The conclusions of the research will show that the Italian accent can be determined only at the phonological level, for example through various phonological processes related to the syllabic structure of Italian.

    Absztrakt This paper describes the corpus of texts written in Sardinian in the period of the giudicati (11th–15th century). The corpus consists mainly of legal documents (donations, litigations, statutes) and a chronicle (Libellus Judicum Turritanorum). They make use of the local varieties of Sardinian, showing a division of logudorese, campidanese and arborense dialects. The need for an updated philological revision has been met by recent editions of several important documents, making it possible to use these for further linguistic research about the structure of medieval Sardinian.

First, we focus on the religious places of ancient Greek and Roman mythology, afterwards, those in the Bible. Finally, we will tackle the common features of all three. We will find that the most important places for Boccaccio were those mountains and the rivers that are connected to those holy places.

    Absztrakt This study focuses on the miscellaneous codex G 275 inf., which is kept in the Ambrosiana Library of Milan. This codex containsmore than seventy Italian and Latin documents which pertain to the Hapsburg campaigns between 1551 and 1552 — guided by the famous captain Giovanni Battista Castaldo — against the Turks in Hungary and in Transylvania. The aim of this study is to present the extraordinary cultural heritage handed down by this manuscript. After a physical description of the codex, its content is studied in a preliminary analysis; there are some documents written on behalf of important historical characters, such as Ferdinand I Hapsburg, Queen Elisabeth of Hungary, and Giovanni Battista Castaldo. In addiction, there are documents on various subjects, such as military instructions, notes, noblemen lists, etc. In conclusion, these documents seem really worthy of an in-depth study in order to find some unpublished texts which could help historians to improve the knowledge of 16th-century Hungarian history.

    Absztrakt Ludovico Ariosto's knightly poem, Orlando furioso 'The Furious Orlando' was popular among the Venetian librettists of the 17th and 18th centuries. On the stages of the musical theatres of the 17th century the public could watch and listen to some extraordinarily spectacular adaptations of Orlando furioso. They displayed several peculiarities of the contemporary Venetian opera performances, including what is known as the polycentric plot, or the comic characters being represented by gestures and realistic elements. In the librettos of the following century Orlando would become a central character, depicted as a heroic-comic person in the scene of losing his sanity by Grazio Braccioli. Ariosto's hero would become a beloved character of several librettists of later eras in other places, too, not only Venice.

    Absztrakt In the second half of the 18h century, the new theatrical genre, drame bourgeois 'domestic drama' radically opposes the rigorous rules of the French classical tragedy and comedy of the 17h century. Louis-Sébastien Mercier sees the opportunity of political education in the new genre. His objective, the creation of French national drama, is the reason for turning to historical themes. He has the intention to mediate political and philosophical ideas of his own era and respect the historical fidelity at the same time (in other words, the true and realistic representation of the chosen historical period). This paper focuses on two main questions: how successfully Mercier is in reconciling historical fidelity with the mediation of enlightened conceptions, and what kind of methods Mercier uses in his works to underpin the historical fidelity.

    Absztrakt Although Carlo Gozzi was not a very popular theatre author, his works were staged in Hungary quite early, a few years after their publication from the 1780's. His works arrived in Hungary through a German influence, his dramas were translated into and staged in German in the Deutsche Theater 'German Theatre' of Pest and Buda. The first performance of a Gozzi play took place in 1783. His most popular drama was Turandot, an adaptation of Schiller's work, which was frequently played in the German Theatre. The first production in Hungarian occurred in 1837 in the Castle Theatre. The company staged Turandot, and it was a great success. In spite of the success, Gozzi’s plays were not well received by the critics. In this paper, I discuss some examples of the critical reception of Carlo Gozzi and his plays.

His books are considered to be essential sources for researchers of the Hungarian Middle Ages. Investigating his character, we can get closer to the order of the accountancy, his responsibilities, and we can follow his life in Hungary.

    Absztrakt In the current study, I would like to present and examine the novel Bassotuba non c'è, which made Paolo Nori, the Emilian writer successful. The novel was written in 1999 and isread and loved for its language, structure and theme. Nori is one of the so-called Emilian writers (members of this unorganized and spontaneous literary group are Gianni Celati, Daniele Benati, Ugo Cornia, Ermanno Cavazzoni, and Luigi Malerba), whose purpose is to modernize novels and make them more accessible for readers by using an almost spoken-style language, abandoning classical, decorated and rigid language, and also reconstructing and breaking the classical narrative structure.

    Absztrakt One of the most original personalities of 19th century French literature is Auguste de Villiers de l'Isle-Adam, whose literary works are almost completely unknown in Hungary, except for a few short stories translated in the last century. His novel L'Eve Future (The Future Eve), is a modern story of creation. This complex novel is atypical in many ways, and allows numerous analytical directions. This paper focuses on one possible reading of the text and examines the birth of the fantastic. The surnatural is present from the first lines of the text but in a masterfully structured way, it gradually, in an almost imperceptible way, takes control over the characters of the novel.

Zoltán Ambrus is a versatile author keenly interested in French literature, whose journalistic, reviewing, translating oeuvre is rich in French aspects: he provides a good example on how the French and Hungarian artistic and literary lives are interwoven in several ways. Ambrus, an outstanding literary critic and translator of his age, was the first to translate Flaubert's Madame Bovary into Hungarian in 1904. His French taste and education, profound knowledge of French literature are manifested in his oeuvre, translations and prose works.

    Absztrakt Geometrical spaces are saturated with experiences and emotions, their metaphorical meanings are supported by individual and collective experiences. The spaces created and wandered by the poet's imagination are places of our spiritual space experience. In the poems of Maurice Carême, a 20th century Belgian poet, we can walk along such objective-spiritual spaces. These emblematic fields are not only sceneries but also places of poetical self-search: poetic life, childhood, losing and finding, which can be interpreted from a space–poetic-self relationship. In the present paper, I have classified and interpreted the spatial emblems appearing in Carême's poetic works along horizontal and vertical lines. These spaces—space emblems—embody ambitions, desire, different ways of behaviour, namely representations of relations. At horizontal level, this relationship is represented by an in-out dialectics: house, castle, nest, garden (inwardness), walls (protects but separates), window, threshold, door, bridge, path are toposes which provide spatial transition. The spatial emblems supporting the vertical motion, the up-down dialectics: ladder, stairs, tower, well. These spatial toposes create a transition between the three levels of the world: Underworld, Earth, Heaven. Their presence in the poetic imagery indicates the primeval desire of people for transcendent experience.

    Absztrakt This study investigates whether or not color naming in translation is indicative of cultural differences. After a short introduction into the realm of colors, this paper briefly summarizes current thinking on issues of color naming and its impact on translation. This is followed by a review of the use and symbolism of the different color terms in Jean Echenoz's novel Je m'en vais and a comparative analysis of the original novel and its Hungarian translation from the point of view of color naming.

    Absztrakt Contrary to literary works, paintings do not speak. They are closely related to the notion of silence, although, for a long time, theorists of painting have held that pictures tell a story, that of a great event. The Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture established a hierarchy of genres in painting, according to which historical painting was the most highly esteemed while genre painting was at the bottom of the hierarchy. Historical themes are naturally eventful; paintings often want to educate the public, they intend to say something. However, genre painting is fundamentally different. Most often, it represents an everyday life scene in which the protagonist is silently absorbed in their activity. In this paper, we will try to answer the following question: if genre painting does not intend to instruct the spectator, what does it express then? We will examine the paintings of Chardin, comparing them with those of Greuze, based on the writings of art critics of the 18th century.

    Absztrakt The Frenchmilitary collaboration started with the Légion des volontaires français contre le bolchevisme (French volunteers' legion on Bolshevism). This military unit was a part of the German army as the 638th infantry regiment of the Wehrmacht. The legion was deployed on the front before Moscow as well as in the back area on the partisans from 1942 until 1944. In 1943, the German authorities started to recruit in France to establish a new French Waffen-SS unit. The volunteers got the instruction in the camp of Sennheim in Alsace and in Bohemia. The first contingence was deployed on the Red Army in Galicia. The mission was accomplished, but the losses were very high: 80 percent of the unit was killed, wounded or missing. Afterwards, the unit became a division with 7000 people, who fought in the combats of Pomerania and in the final battle of Berlin.

    Absztrakt This paper has a twofold purpose. On the one hand, its objective is to explore two chapters concerned with Aeneas and Romulus in Boccaccio's Genealogy, more closely, to address the issue of the two heroes' death. The author ends their lives in a surprisingly similar and undeserved way, to which there is no reference in other sources. On the other hand, examining those matters, the paper wishes to point out Boccaccio’s unusual humanistic approach to the subject of his work, i.e., to heathen mythology or to the sources he exploited. In the majority of cases he prefers the latter and at times Christian authors' opinion to those of the antique writers despite the fact that he is aware of a conciderable amount of ancient sources and attempts to use each of them in his works.

    Absztrakt This paper presents an analysis of some of the poets that took part in the poetic contest, called Certame Coronario in 1441, organized by the humanist Leon Battista Alberti. We'll discuss the great poetic anthology, the Compilation of Aragon, put together by Lorenzo de'Medici and Poliziano in 1476. The merit of the anthology is its systematic summary of the vernacular poetry from the 13th century (Duecento) until the second half of the 15th century (Quattrocento). We provide an analysis of the selective criteria of Lorenzo and Poliziano, which reveals their concept of vernacular poetry and language.

    Absztrakt The aim of this paper is to point out that Toinette, the last servant of Molière in Le Malade Imaginaire, "The Hypochondriac", is a more complex, more unique, and less typified character than servants in his other works. During his authorship, Molière employed many different methods which can be recognized in the role of Toinette, however, inseparably. Even if her role is composed of the elements of several types, these components constitute a perfect totality.

    Absztrakt Memoirs (from the French mémoires) were the most common and popular literary genre in French literature between the 17th to late 18th centuries - then slowly the genre started to decline. Firstly reserved to the upper high society, memoirs were written foremost as a kind of "must" by aristocratic people and then after as testimony, a will to leave a trace in history. Many memoirs were composed during and shortly after the French revolution. Their authenticity is often difficult to investigate - among them the Journal of Cléry, valet of Louis XVI and the Mémoires of Madame Campan, first lady in waiting to the Queen. These written treasures are extraordinary testimonies of the French Royal family and their ultimate hours.

    Absztrakt If one considers 19th-century French literature, Romanticism and Fantastic literature are not always clearly distinguishable. Romantic thinking rebelled against the conventions of the time, rejected the earlier models, placed problems into a new light, and renewed the concept of aesthetics fundamentally. The ideal of Romanticism finds its form in the fragment that symbolizes the fragmentedness of the work - of any work, in opposition to the values of Classicism, which was to strive for perfection. The fragment, as a rediscovered form of self expression and as an aesthetic dimension different from the previous ones in the past, naturally had an effect on Fantastic Literature. This paper outlines the form and content of these influences.

    Absztrakt In this paper, I discuss the possible parallels suggested by various critics between the dramatic art of Luigi Pirandello and that of G. B. Shaw. Only few critics, such as Walter Starkie and Eric Bentley, dealt with this question thoroughly. Starkie states that there are not many similarities between the works of the two artists. In order to support this statement, he studied the main characteristics of the Pirandellian and the Shavian plays, observed the stage directions, and the heroes and heroines represented in the dramas. After this, I study Bentley's views on the intellectualism of Pirandello and Shaw, and how they react to the question of illusion and reality as an everyday experience. The summary of the Pirandello-Shaw criticism provides a basis for my further studies of these arguments.

    Absztrakt According to Octavio Paz, the passage of time seems cyclical to primitive people: life repeats the same acts in an eternal cycle, and we humans are reborn in this endless flow. However, after a certain degree of literary evolution, people begin to view time as linear and their own lives as inevitably finite. Art is, however, the place where this lineal time-stream dissolves, shows different structures and intermixes. But why are authors not satisfied with the concept of a lineal time-stream, and why do they find the concept of a looped timeline so alluring? And how can one convey the never-ending circle of time in the closed, stand alone world of a literary work, and what techniques can allow him to achieve the unachievable: to contain infinity in something finite? This study examines how Paz's mystical cyclical view of time acts in numerous novels of Julio Cortázar.

This bond, totally unintelligible to adults, stems both from the unusual philosophy that lies behind the child-hero behaviour and its ability to personify the world that surrounds it. The World in turn looks after the child carefully.

    Absztrakt The paper focuses on a vernacular Tuscanian Gospel translation from the Middle Ages which was transmitted on by five testimonies. We will discuss the system of glosses in the text of the translation, which, due to their spontaneity, presumably reflects the linguistic environment in which the translator lived and worked. This translating method was particularly popular in the Middle Ages; however, it is still difficult to find the direct source of the glosses: this obscurity makes the linguistic analysis of the text and glosses indispensable. Our hypothesis is that the text of glosses - originating from a Neo-Latin linguistic system - reflects a later stage of the language, while the translation from Latin into Italian contains grammatical traits which are related to a Latin syntactic model.

    Absztrakt This paper analyses the principal tendencies of compounding, the most used word-formation process in Modern Italian. The goal is to delineate the most employed compositive patterns in the enrichment of the vocabulary of Italian. After a brief introduction, we will examine a productive compositive pattern of native compounding: N+N, V+N, A+A and N+A. Then, we will describe the two mostly employed patterns of non-native compounding: neoclassical compounding and what is known as "hybrid compounding". We will present examples from a corpus created from the dictionary of Italian neologisms (Adamo & Della Valle 2003). This choice is motivated by the idea that although neologisms are sometimes ephemeral, they can provide an insight of word-formation tendencies in Italian.

    Absztrakt In this paper, we investigate French multiple questions in the framework of Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG). We will argue that in French, there are three basic types of multiple questions, which contain subclasses, according to the particular register. We show that one type is better analyzed as the coordination of two single questions. The puzzle concerning French multiple questions is the ambiguity between two possible interpretations of the same pair-list question: the syntax gives no clue about the D-linkedness of the question words, which is crucial in the interpretation, determines and thematizes the congruent answer to the question. We propose to solve the problem via the dissociation of syntactic and discourse information in the LFG framework (functional vs. information structure), in a way that two different information structures can belong to the same syntactic structure. The gist of the analysis is to suppose that D-linked question words correspond to topics, and non-Dlinked ones to foci in the information structure, which gives rise to the different readings in semantics.

    Absztrakt The aim of this paper to describe the various uses of the adverb certainement 'certainly', based on 16th-century French texts. Having provided a short summary of the treatment of certainement in contemporary grammars, in the first – theoretical – part I will argue that the development of adverbs is a part of grammaticalisation processes. Based on the examples of Frantext, I will show that certainement was present in 16th-century French both as an adverb of manner and as a sentential adverbial.

    Absztrakt This paper deals with Nahuatl, a minority language, spoken by 1.5 million people from North Mexico to Central America. One of the main characteristics of Spanish spoken in Mexico is its vocabulary, much of which originates from Nahuatl. The first Nahuatl words appeared in Spanish when the first conquerors arrived in the New World and tried to denominate plants, animals and other typical objects of the area. In the 16–17th centuries some words of this type were used in Spanish and Mexican literature. In the first half of the 20th century the influence of Native American languages on Spanish was overestimated and it was only in 1960s that it was rectified by Lope Blanch, who made a survey on words of Native American languages in Mexico City. The survey concludes that only 0.07 % of the vocabulary is of Nahuatl origin. Taking this survey as a starting point, in 2006 I also made a survey with a remarkably different conclusion.

    Absztrakt The paper analyzes a well-known but not extensively researched morphosyntatctic phenomenon, which will be illustrated in three of A. Manzoni's novels. We will reveal the regularity in the changing frequency of ci/vi locatives in the texts. The shift in the distribution of clitics among the three major functions of locatives is investigated as the possible reason for the prevalent use of the locative ci. We also demonstrate that although the spread of ci is a general phenomenon, it influences the functions to a different degree. In order to provide a better understanding of the background of these changes, three playwrights from the 14/15th centuries are introduced. Their works were among the readings of Manzoni, thus they could have an effect on his language model and also on the spread of ci.

    Absztrakt The Dark Ages is the term popularly applied to describe the period of the Middle Ages. The notion is thought to originate from the sonnets of Petrarch, but it was already used by Saint Bonaventure in the 13th century. Since both authors used the term medium tempus of their tripartition of time to underline the rupture between near and ancient past, its negative connotations became well known to the public and entered historiography through Italian humanism. German humanists, on the other hand, had tried hard to show continuity between the Roman and the Holy Roman Empires in order to support the idea of Translatio imperii Romani a Graecis ad Germanos. However, their efforts had diminished during the new era of reformation which also emphasized the idea of rupture.

    Absztrakt The aim of this paper is to give a systematic overview of the representatives and works of French children and youth literature based on a possible typology set up by the authors. The first section of the study intends to give a definition of children and youth literature, describing the selection criteria of the works which can be included in this category, while the second section of the study briefly outlines the history of French children and youth literature. Publishers have a significant role in reaching the target audience as well as in wide diffusion, which is described in the third section. The fourth section aims to briefly introduce the works of classic and modern authors, picture-book writers and illustrators who are the most well-known in Hungary. In the conclusion, the dimensional changes of the French children and youth literature are highlighted as well as its development into a modern scholarly field providing potential research topics in the future.

Focus will be laid on how monologues and dialogues are interwoven and mixed in these interesting and exciting stories.

This paper aims to present themonologues and the triple-soliloquy in Le retour au désert (The Return to the Desert) (1988), which is a play less often analysed from this point of view. Anne Ubersfeld regards these monologues as too conventional compared to the forty-seven-page long soliloquy of La Nuit juste avant les forêts (The Night Just before the Forests) (1977) and the quasi-monologues of Quai Ouest (Quay West) (1985) and Roberto Zucco (1988).

    Absztrakt The aim of this paper is to analyse the adjectival collocations of French adverbs of degree synonymous with très 'very' and typical of what is referred to as "familiar style". While a number of studies were written on English adjective–adverb co-occurrences, French researches fall short of them. Our examples are retrieved fromliterary fiction covering the 20th century, using the Frantext database. After finding thirteen synonymous adverbs of degree on the basis of different dictionaries, we examine their collocational behaviour occurring in recurrent combinations. We include the types and the tokens of their adjectival collocatives and we show thatmost of themtend to be associated with general, positive adjectives. Mutual information (MI) measure has found the most frequently occurring collocations among the synonymous combinations. We also show that the collocations appear in diverse syntactic structures.

In his Reverie, Rousseau builds up a space where he is composed by refraction and displacement. The autobiographical process of writing is a kind of dialectical process between the subject writing about himself and the grammatical person that pertains to language.

    Absztrakt The poetry of János Pilinszky was influenced by the philosophical mysticism of Simone Weil and by the atmosphere of the novels of Francois Mauriac. Their profoundly catholic vision of the world (expressed or inexpressed) is oriented to the universe and to the union of all creatures in three different ways, albeit absolutely authentic and essentially identical. In this paper, I will try to highlight these parallelisms through some notions which are very important in the works of the three authors. I set out from the state of deep solitude and isolation of the reviewed poems of the Hungarian poet János Pilinszky, touching upon the concepts of attention, obscurity, purity, grace and many others by a comparative analysis in a special circular way.

    Absztrakt There exists an evident and organic connection between the various arts (for example, painting, sculpture, music, dance, literature, film etc.), which can be expressed with the term inter-art. This paper will be concerned with the relation between music and literature, more precisely, it examines the manifestation and the parallels of individual musical forms and renderings in literary text. The selected prose - Marguerite Yourcenar's Oriental Tales - will be the focus of this textual-musical analysis, concentrating on those stylistic characteristics and text formatting tools that exhibit musical features in their properties and their structure. Even up to the present, analyses of literary texts have employed musical terms, for instance, polyphony, rhythm, cadence, pedal point, etc. This study will explore the textual manifestation of the following musical terms: rhythm, upbeat, non legato, imitation, tempo, lento, accelerando, retardation, polyphony, a cappella, soloist and figuration.

    Absztrakt In this paper, I will argue that the asyllabic /i/ - a recurrent inflectional element in final position in Romanian words - is not a phoneme of the Romanian vowel system. I will present arguments which sustain that the morphological marker -i leads to the palatalization of the preceding consonant, resulting in a positional allophone of the consonant phoneme in complementary distribution with it.

    Absztrakt Since antiquity Latium constitutes a legendary refuge for the lost traveler (Ulysses), the persecuted being (Saturn) and the exiled warrior (Aeneas). On the other side of the Mediterranean, North Africa, between the end of 19th century and the first half of 20th century, was also a shelter for many expatriates, in particular Italian immigrants. In the aftermath of decolonization, after a breaking of a few generations and a dramatic colonial experience, Latium represents the privileged place of repatriation for many Italians. This article focuses on Latiumin the imaginary of Tunisian-born Italians and on literarymyths that are set in Southern Latium. In the last part it analyses the figure of Elpenor - the Odyssey's helmsman who died at Circe's palace - in the work of Adrien Salmieri (1929-).

    Absztrakt The Trivulziana Cod. N. 1458 is a variant of the dispatch, known as the "Landus report" in the Hungarian historiography. This report narrates the history of Hungary from the death of Louis the Great up to the peace between Matthias Corvinus and Frederick III in 1463. However, the codex of the Trivulziana Library also contains a new closing section, which narrates the events following the death of Matthias. In this paper, I examine two questions: (a) was this closing section written by the same person as the so-called Landus report?; (b) does this closing section provide us new pieces of information concerning the history of Hungary? In addition to this, I give a general account of the content of the dispatch and review its editions and its manuscript tradition. Moreover, I outline its reception in the Hungarian historiography. Finally, in the Appendix I give the transcription of the closing section of the manuscript as well as another unpublished part of the manuscript, although the examination of this will be the subject of further studies.

    Absztrakt At the peak of his career and after some unbearable literary conflicts, Carlo Goldoni accepts the invitation of the Théâtre Italien ('Italian Theatre') in Paris and leaves Venice. Una delle ultime sere del Carnovale ('One of the Last Nights of the Carnival') is the comedy with which he says goodbye to his Venice audience, and in the form of an allegory, entering the comedy behind its protagonist, Anzoletto, he speaks about his professional reasons to leave Venice. This parallelism between Anzoletto and Goldoni is analyzed through the latest theatrical version of this comedy that was staged at the Katona Theatre in Budapest.

    Absztrakt Gyula Illyés, Hungarian poet, fiction writer, essayist and dramatist, emigrated to Paris after the fall of the Hungarian Republic in 1919. There, he came into contact with the working class movement as well as with surrealistic circles. Strongly influenced by modern French writing, Illyés nevertheless adopted realism in his novels. He reflects upon his emigration times in Paris in his novel, Hunok Párisban [Huns in Paris]. The present paper focuses on the following main issues in relation to this novel: types of description, panoramic views, walks, atmosphere of certain districts, the stylistic characteristics of the descriptive sequences. Illyés's description of Paris is a classic example of a type of urban literature that was pioneered in Paris of the 1840s, and was used to celebrate the diversity and dynamismof themodern city. At the center of his description was the figure of the flâneur, or urban stroller, who embodied and represented the quintessential qualities of urban modernity.

    Absztrakt Pointing to various movements of individuals, the theme of migration-immigration-émigration 'migration-immigration-emigration' stimulates heterogeneous readings. The word migration, deriving from Latin migratio, meaning 'displacement from one country to another, to settle'. Human migration refers to the displacement of the place of life of the individual. The prefixes im- and é- are indicative of disparate movements. I will uncover the meaning of these three words, migration-immigration-emigration. I will analyze the shape of the idea of migration in literature, in this case an essay type, in order to clarify his a;nity with the notion of rhizome borrowed from Gilles Deleuze. After a thorough analysis of the essay rhizomatique, in the second part I will tackle the question of the image 'migrant' by Andrei Makine, a francophone writer who emigrated from Russia in the late 1980's.

    Absztrakt The paper examines the French-Algerian relationship through the subjects of immigration and emigration. This historical analysis focuses on 20th-century Algerian emigration with a special regard to the great wave of emigration that followed the Algerian war (1954-1962). The first part of the article presents contemporary Algerian industry, culture and social life. The multifaceted picture of 21st-century Algeria raises further issues. I try to find answers by giving a historical overview. The second part focuses on France and the life of different generations of Algerian immigrants in the country. I will consider the Parisian example that opened the wave of change of social life into intercultural society. The main objective of this article is to encourage the revaluation of the antagonistic political relationship between Algeria and France and to offer a new possibility to overcome the hostility caused by the recollection of the war.

    Absztrakt The status of clitic or conjunctive pronouns of Romance languages is a highly debated topic in linguistic literature. A number of articles dedicated to this issue propose to analyse clitic pronouns as affixes that have lost their syntactic autonomy, whereas others assert that they are syntactically accessible arguments of the verb. This article focuses on the exposition and study of clitic pronouns in the francoprovençal dialect of Pélussin from the perspective of their syntactic and morphosyntactic properties. We conduct a survey of the criteria usually employed to distinguish between affixes and clitics, in order to attempt to determine how the clitic pronouns of this patois should be analysed. We conclude that the dialect of Pélussin is very similar to colloquial French from this point of view, hence it follows that the analyses put forward previously for the latter also apply to the dialect presented herein.

Lat. 3606/III) of the National Library of Hungary, formerly owned by Miklós Istvánffy, a Hungarian statesman and poet of the late 16th century. The study identifies the performer as Giovanni Tabarino, an actor of commedia dell'arte at the court of Emperor Maximilian II, and situates it in the context of contemporary comic performances. The text itself and a parallel passage fromamanuscript poemof Johannes Stabius a Dubnice are included in the appendix.

    Absztrakt This paper evaluates the performance of Translator jêzyka francuskiego, a French–Polish translator program, edited by Kompas in 2001. Articles from French papers were selected for translation by the program according to the domain they represented, i.e., computer science, biology and law. The quality of their translation was evaluated on the basis of predefined criteria of comprehensibility and faithfulness. This study establishes an error typology reflecting three levels of the analysis made by the program during the translation process of each lexical unit present in the French articles. In order to perform a correct translation, the program has to first recognize a unit as either simple or complex, and next assign to it a grammatical function and meaning. Since errors can appear at each level, our typology reflects all these stages and we can classify all the incorrectly translated lexical units according to their semantic value and the grammatical functions they assume. Our investigation has allowed us to distinguish the following groups of the incorrectly translated lexical units: complex lexical units recognised by the program as simple ones, simple polysemous lexical units, and idiomatic expressions. Each of these groups consists of a few subgroups that correspond to the grammatical categories such as pronouns, articles or prepositions.

    Absztrakt The prologue to the Estoire del Saint Graal (1230–1235) - the first part of the Lancelot-Grail Cycle - is a unique example of a threshold text employing the cliché of translatio: the anonymous scribe of the Estoire presents his book as a transcription of another book, written and transmitted to him by Christ himself. This method, developed within a detailed temporal framework of the Easter, allows for more than just backing up the text of the Estoire with the authority of its divine creator. Between God, his book and the text occurs a translatio substaniae, a series of incarnations which endows the romance with the character of a new Holy Scripture.

    Absztrakt The Goncourts, known for their devotion to naturalism, desired to attain maximal fidelity in the rendering of reality. One of their objectives was to provide an exact transcription of conversation, quoting all its truths and freshness. But the effort of rendering reality as faithfully as possible is only one of the numerous sides of their aesthetics. The influences of their interest for the theatre on their novelists' technique show their fidelity to the convention, but can also increase the impression of probability. This is one of the aspects of their interest in artificiality, which is in an apparent opposition with their realism. The "écriture artiste", a style of their own, invented to render all their momentary sensations as exactly as possible, also appears as an ideal solution to quote a conversation. In this way, elements which could seem contradictory to the pursuit of truth can help the authors attain this objective.

    Absztrakt The paper concentrates on the description of common proceedings of youth slang in Czech and French. These common word-formatting categories should be characterized as "slang parasystems". The youth slang of Czech and French teenagers operates with the actualization of the idioms of old slangs, with semantic neologisms and metaphors. Metaphors are frequently "chained" by synonymic and paronymic attractions. The expressive component in neologisms is erased by high frequency of usage, whereby vulgarisms become quickly banalized. The intensity of expressive idioms is very di;cult to translate into Czech and French, as we show in the examples.

    Absztrakt Il est généralement admis qu'avant de commencer la formation en interprétation, il est nécessaire de déceler par un test d'aptitude les candidats les plus aptes au métier. Parallèlement, il n'est pas possible de passer à l'enseignement de l'interprétation simultanée sans avoir perfectionné les fondements de l'interprétation consécutive. Le travail de l'interprète s'effectue par sa nature sur le discours parlé. La vérification des aptitudes des candidats ainsi que la formation doivent se faire à l'appui des discours parlés. Le texte présente la typologie des textes/discours utilisés à des fins de formation des futurs interprètes de conférence, dressée à l'appui des exigences qui doivent être remplies pour réaliser les objectifs didactiques de l'étape qui commence par le test d'aptitude et fini par le perfectionnement de l'interprétation consécutive. Le critère clé dans le choix des textes reste la progression de leur di;culté, répondant surtout aux besoin de l'enseignement, sans négliger pourtant les exigences imposées par la réalité professionnelle.

In this article I would like to share some reflections about the role of pilot projects in the preparation of scientific research.     Absztrakt The paper intends to present communication in foreign languages in the perspective of "everyday creativity". It tries to define the role of creativity training in certain aspects and at certain stages of the education of foreign language students. The reflection is fostered by the opinions sustaining that creativity may be a factor at play in the communication in foreign languages. It is rooted in the principles of glottodidactics, its aims and scope of research, as formulated by researchers from Polish school of applied linguistics. Moreover, it takes into account trends and tendencies showing new directions in thinking about foreign language acquisition, in particular those outlining the role of the student. The approach adopted relates also to the role played in psychoeducation by didactic and creativity research (both pure and applied), which may pave the way for research on creativity training and its role in foreign language teaching and learning.

    Absztrakt The dit is a special literary form which appeared in the 13th century. As a didactic genre, one of its preferred topics is women who are mostly depicted in a negative way, a rather common practice in the Middle Ages. The dit is midway between oral and written poesy, which is an indication of a large scale change in the society of the 13th century. This paper analyzes the features of written and oral poesy in seven dits about women composed in the 13th and 14th centuries.

    Absztrakt The present paper deals with the work of Albert Cohen and how it is influenced by orality. Albert Cohen was inspired by the style of the stories in the The Book of Thousand Nights and One Night in a way that we can call his technique "orientalizing". After a methodological introduction concerning the conception of orality, we discuss the indications of orality at the various structure levels of Cohen's text: the extradiegetic narrator (Cohen dictated his texts to "the women of his life" and used the method of improvisation), the elocutio (characters are differentiated on the basis of their utterances; the style demonstrates clichés and idiomatic expressions), the construction of the plot (the hero follows the traditional journey), and the alternation of the narrative levels (extradiegetic and diegetic). Finally, we determine the functions of orality in Cohen's work and the author's intention.

    Absztrakt The first-person narrator of Prévost abbé's Histoire d'une Grecque moderne tells the story of his relationship with a beautiful Greek woman. The relation starts with a dialogue realized in a seraglio and this type of reported communication will dominate the whole narration. Most of these dialogues take place as part of a persuasion process: the actors try to persuade each other, and on his turn, the narrator tries to persuade the reader. The letter - the written communication par excellence - substitutes the dialogue between the actors only once, at a crucial moment of the story. This situation emphasizes one of the central problems raised by the novel: the failure of self-expression and mutual understanding.

    Absztrakt Difficulties of translating socially marked speech from French into Hungarian are analyzed. The corpus is based on a French crime fiction by Fred Vargas, translated into Hungarian by myself. Firstly, I deal with the strategies and techniques of social marking in the French version. Then, I turn to the Hungarian translation and see whether the socially marked character of the original text could be rendered and, if yes, what kind of markers were used. Differences seem to arise from the fact that popular French, as a register, does not have a perfect equivalent in Hungarian. This "deficiency" becomes most striking in the domain of syntax. While the French author uses mainly syntactic devices to mark popular speech, the translationmust rely on phonetic and lexical markers, given that syntactic differences between standard Hungarian and its non-standard varieties are almost null. Also, while markers are clearly popular throughout the French version, the Hungarian translation renders either a dialectically marked speech, for non-Parisian popular French speakers, or a kind of urban slang, for Parisian popular French speakers.

    Absztrakt This paper is a study of neological processes of musicians' argot. The most powerful creative element is the metaphorical use of common terms, which represents two thirds of the examined corpus. The metaphor is also the base of lexicalization and compounding. Some typical processes, such as suffixation, back derivation, conversion, abbreviation and borrowing, exemplify formal neology. The most important aspects of neologism include verbal play and the linguistic deformation.

    Absztrakt Frozen subject idioms can be classified into three, pragmatically based classes: evocatives, evaluatives, and diologic. These groups are characterized by diverse syntactic behaviour. In this paper, we provide evidence that the three classes represent separate degrees of subjectivity in the language, and that this property increases parallel to that of being situationally bound.

    Absztrakt Streamof consciousness is themanifestation of verbality in writing. Through the narrative technique of stream of consciousness, the writer has the opportunity to use the a very personal tone. This study examines three short stories by Valery Larbaud, the French writer and translator, which are characterized by this unique symbiosis of verbality and orality. This narrative technique is mainly suitable for the depiction of feelings and thoughts and not the narration of events. Its striking structural feature is the incoherent composition of sentences. Larbaud attributed great significance to narration carried out with the technique of stream of consciousness. The heroes of the three Larbaud short stories, which are in the scope of this study, have emotional problems to solve. The main topic of their "audible thinking" is the problem of faithfulness and the spiritual and physical distances between man and woman. Journey through time and space often gives the impression of a film script: the narrator depicts past and imaginary future in incoherent structured sentences which resemble the form of snapshots.

    Absztrakt In 1919, André Breton - a young psychiatrist, future leader of the surrealist movement - invents a new mode of expression to accurately convey the functioning of human thought: automatic writing. An automatic text is a monologue "on which the critical sense of the subject does not give any judgement" and which is "as exactly as possible the pronounced thought." He carries out his invention in writing in cooperation with Philippe Soupault. Their work entitled The Magnetic Fields is a book "without precedent," according to one of their friends, Louis Aragon. What is this work like, in which the 'told' and the 'written' are inseparably mixed? Is it rather an oral text or a written one? Does writing prove to be sufficient to convey the automatic act of oral nature? These are the questions which this paper attempts to answer.

    Absztrakt Queneau's language has been analysed many times, mostly from a linguistic point of view, with special attention being paid to such procedures as phonetic transcription, lexical and syntactic mistakes or vocabulary typical of colloquial speech. However, Queneau's aim is not simply to imitate spoken discourse. Underlining of the oral aspect of a literary text emphasises its ludic character, i.e., its being - in a sense - the author's intellectual game with the reader. Queneau's linguistic experiments are not just limited to the most frequently mentioned techniques, by means of which he introduces the spoken discourse into literature. Simultaneously, Queneau employs very sophisticated, precise or even technical vocabulary as well as varied stylistic figures, often very complex. The present article analyses this play of linguistic registers, which constitutes the originality of Queneau s style and demonstrates that it is the conscious strategy of the author, who, rejecting established linguistic norms and literary conventions, plays with the reader.

    Absztrakt Histoire vécue d'Artaud-Mômo is the 26th volume, the last so far, of Antonin Artaud's complete works. It was first published in 1994 and it consists of the texts that Artaud composed for a conference in the Vieux-Colombier theatre, Paris in 1947. As its title suggests, Histoire vécue d'Artaud-Mômo is an autobiographical work in which Artaud recalls and tells themost important events of his life, emphasing the story of his hospitalisation. The text is characterized by the use of spoken French. By introducing a theatre and oral style, Artaud wanted to make the ambiance of the performance more intimate, he tried to overcome the distance between the stage and the auditorium. But first and foremost he wanted to live once more his life, to become an actor and director of the Theatre of Cruelty. We can discover several common aspects between Artaud's text and Voyage au bout de la nuit by Céline. Some of the points they share are the importance of voyage narratives, autobiographical elements, the use of spoken and popular French as well as argot, the revolt against institutions established by society, the feeling of the tragic, a pessimistic vision of the world, and finally the theme of death which is omnipresent in Artaud's and Céline's works.

    Absztrakt A detailed analysis of the Czech translation of Raymond Queneau's Chiendent shows many solutions that reveal possibilities of the use of similar methods in translation of spoken language in French and in Czech. First, we will try to sum up what problems the translation of Queneau's texts bring up, as some of them stand on the very border of possibility of translation to a foreign language. We will also explore the question of whether the text of the translation preserves all the nuances of the original text. We will search for reasons of a greater expresivity of the Czech translation.

    Absztrakt The purpose of the paper is to consider how a free suffix can affect the semantics of verbs. The morphemes in question, which are considered free of semantic function and morphologically autonomous, are highly productive in verbal communication. Interestingly, the morphological structure of some verbs contains two free suffixes. In fact, the morphological and semantic autonomy contribute to the increase in the number of synonyms and stylistic variants. The paper suggests that free suffixes are highly charged. Their expressivity is their most important semantic function.

    Absztrakt As the corpus studies of the paper reveal, apposition, as we define it, is less frequent in the written sport press, though it is typical of written discourse in general. The rare samples found accompany proper names quasi-exclusively: this construction is very commonly found in the appositive structures of spoken language. This phenomenon could be explained by the fact that the style of the written sport press approximates that of oral language. However, apposition gradually appears in the sports press, too (particulary, in the headlines of articles) as a subtle but powerful lexico-syntactic tool.

    Absztrakt The work of Henri Michaux still represents a rich source of inspiration for both critics and readers. The paper focuses on the hermeneutic aspect of the double dimension of the voice; the transcribed one that emerges as the lyric subject in the text and the physical one that occurs during the act of reading. On example of use of the female lyric subject in the poem La Ralentie, the author tries to present the act of reading as an important dimension of interpretation, caused by what Ricoeur calls "distanciation". Two versions of the poem are compared: the text of Michaux and its recorded recitation by the actress Germaine Montero. The aim of the paper is to show, how the act of reading can modify the interpretation of the original version, whereas this possibility of more dimensional conceiving is to be understood as one of the main purposes of the Michaux's literary creation in general.

    Absztrakt For centuries the letter was considered to be the best way of communication when meeting was impossible between people far away from each other. At modern times we also have the telephone to bring our family or friends closer. A telephone conversation is more personal, more vivid and takes less time. 18th century French literature produced fictive letters to create fascinating novels. Two contemporary authors, Marguerite Cassan and Lucie Faure, attempted to do the same with fictive phone-calls in their novels: Fil à fil ('Line to line') and Mardi à l'aube ('Tuesday at dawn'), respectively. An evident outcome of the "live" conversations is that the language of the novels is strikingly close to spoken French. The present paper wishes to detect the modus operandi of creating the illusion of spoken language in writing.

    Absztrakt In his cubist poetry, Max Jacob follows the declaration of Mallarmé to create poems not with ideas but with words. He was advocating the siginifiant to the detriment of signifié. Thus, for Jacob, a word has become the same thing as the object for painters - an element of the construction. The ordinary and everyday objects enchanted cubist aesthetics. The same process can be observed in Jacob's poetry. The poet considers everyday spoken French as equivalent to the objects in cubist pictures. The discrepancy between spoken and written French has also been shown to be able to bring closer cubist poetry to painting. Among others things, he uses multiple-word games which have the purpose of highlighting the essence of words, just like in cubist pictures where an object suffers all kind of decompositions, syntheses and analyses.

    Absztrakt The paper deals with the letters written by Aurora Formentini to his husband, Ádám Batthyány in the 1630s. The documents, which are of rather low historical interest, may be analysed in respect to their language. Nobody knows what the mother tongue of the Countess in fact was. What is known is that she was born in Gorizia (Friuli), was educated in Vienna and married in Hungary. Although she was educated at the emperor's court, her language use is far from any standard grammatical canon.

    Absztrakt The author is a graduated student of Pázmány Péter Catholic University who carried out research in Rome for three months in 1999. In this period he found in the General Archives of the Dominican Order several documents related to Hungary which arrived to Rome presumably after the second world war. In this paper he is presenting two of these documents that he is now studying on photographs. The two Latin texts are from the beginning of the XVIth century and contain valuable informations for researchers of the history of asile right.

    Absztrakt In this article we have an overview of the life and activity of Pier Paolo Vergerio, an Italian humanist who lived for 26 years in Hungary, at the court of Sigismund of Luxemburg. The Author shows the relations of Vergerio with contemporary other Italian humanists, specially Coluccio Salutati and indicates possible connections with the second generation of Humanism in Hungary.
